FIGURES OF MERIT
Value Proposition: Currently, there are over 1 million confirmed deaths thus far in 2020, relating to pulmonary failure: about 419,000 COVID-19 deaths and 675,000 deaths from child pneumonia in low- and middle-income countries (LMIC’s). 80% of these deaths occur before the patient can make it to a hospital. Complicating factors include lack of infrastructure (no reliable electricity, water, roads, buildings), low-skilled personnel, aging equipment with high maintenance costs, and poor environment (hot, dusty, humid conditions, insects and rodents). While antibiotics are often available at key points of intervention, vital medical oxygen is typically inaccessible until arrival at a hospital. In addition, there are currently no proven solutions for delivering supplemental oxygen to the rural health centers that could provide ready access.
