TECHNOLOGY SUMMARY
Area:
Diagnostic technologies for identification of SARS-CoV-2 from human nasal, buccal, or saliva samples
Tech Brief: A "Point-of-Care" test for the colorimetric, rapid (<30 min), early and massive detection of SARS-CoV-2 and other pandemic viruses in patients has been developed. This test consist of an innovative technology based on porous materials, loaded with a reporter molecule and capped with biomolecular gates able to selectively recognize COVID-19.

Value Proposition: In near-terms, this POC test technology will have an impact on the manufacturing and distribution of in vitro diagnostic devices industry. In long-terms, this technology will generate an impact on the patients requiring a rapid COVID-19 diagnosis as well as National and International Health Systems, which will reduce costs and will improve efficiency in relation to the available POCs for SARS-CoV-2 detection or other viruses. The unique benefits of this technology is that is cheaper and faster compared with PCR test with an estimated time of response less than 30 minutes and a selling price of around 20 €/test. There are no competitors with this technology in the market, but there are competitors with other types of point of care test that is usually based on antibody detection and have less sensitivity.
