Samuel Courtney serves as the Lead Engineer for Weapon Open System Architecture (WOSA), the Air Force’s approach to Open Architecture in munitions and a product of the Air Force Research Laboratory Aire Warfare Directorate (AFRL/RA). WOSA is a framework that enables open and modular weapons with third-party verification and validation of compliance. As a WOSA subject matter expert (SME), Sam interfaces with tri-service partners across both Government and Industry as a lead in the WOSA Consortium. In the past year, he has pushed for an expansion of WOSA’s capabilities, encompassing alternative navigation solutions and Networked Collaborative Autonomy (NCA) support. His efforts focus on ensuring WOSA is adaptable to emerging technology and flexible in this ever-changing landscape.
