David Bishop

Dr. David Bishop is currently the Director of the CELL-MET NSF Engineering Research Center and Head of the Division of Materials Science and Engineering at Boston University.  He is also a Professor of Physics, Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Professor of Materials Science and Engineering, Professor of Biomedical Engineering and a Professor of Mechanical Engineering.   Previously he was the Interim Associate Dean for Research and Graduate Programs in the BU College of Engineering.  Before joining BU in 2011, he was the Chief Technology Officer (CTO) and Chief Operating Officer (COO) of LGS.  Prior to joining LGS, Dr. Bishop was the President of Government Research & Security Solutions for Bell Labs, Lucent Technologies.  Dr. Bishop is a Bell Labs Fellow and in his previous positions with Lucent served as Nanotechnology Research VP for Bell Labs, Lucent Technologies; President of the New Jersey Nanotechnology Consortium and the Physical Sciences Research VP.  Dr. Bishop graduated from Syracuse University with a B.S. in Physics. He received an M.S. and Ph.D. in Physics from Cornell University.  He is a member of the NAE and the NAI.
