
Thomas Overbeck serves as Innovation Commercialization Director for Precision Fermentation at Archer Daniels Midland (ADM), where he focuses on developing and executing commercialization strategies for emerging biotechnology opportunities. His work sits at the intersection of biotechnology, industrial manufacturing, agricultural supply chains, and business strategy, translating innovative technologies into scalable and economically viable commercial businesses. At ADM, Thomas works with biotechnology companies and strategic partners from early technical and economic evaluation through process scale-up, manufacturing strategy, partnership development, and commercial deployment. His experience includes evaluating new technologies and markets, developing business models, structuring strategic partnerships, and navigating the technical, operational, and economic requirements of industrial-scale biomanufacturing. This provides Thomas with a practical perspective on the challenges facing the industrial bioeconomy, including scale-up risk, manufacturing economics, capital requirements, and aligning stakeholders across emerging value chains. Thomas holds a Ph.D. in Food Science with a focus on microbial biotechnology and an MBA from Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management.
