Shirley Huang is a Program Officer at the Institute of Education Sciences in the Department of Education. Her primary portfolio is the Reading, Writing, and Language research topic. She also supports the Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) program that focuses on educational technology product innovation. Prior to joining IES, Shirley was a health and science policy fellow with the Society for Research in Child Development (SRCD) and American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) at the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD), where she supported research portfolios on learning disabilities, cognition, and multilingualism. She is a certified speech-language pathologist who served children and their families, conducted bilingual language evaluation and treatment, and diagnosed and treated children with disabilities. She received her PhD at the University of Colorado Boulder in Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences, and Cognitive Sciences.
