Benjamin Blakely, PhD CISSP (member, IEEE) is a cybersecurity and artificial intelligence researcher at Argonne National Laboratory leading the Applied Research group in the Strategic Security Sciences division. He has over 20 years of experience in the private, public, and education sectors in operations, research, and teaching. He has served as a subject matter expert for the United States Departments of Energy, Homeland Security, and Defense. He holds PhD and BS degrees from Iowa State University, where he taught Legal, Ethical, and Professional Issues in Cybersecurity for eight semesters (a course he designed). He is a Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP/ISC2) and Certified Information Security Manager (CISM/ISACA, inactive). His research interests span the topics of machine learning methods for risk management, critical infrastructure protection, and the development of systems that can intelligently defend themselves.
