Len Tran, a Supervisory Patent Examiner at the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) in the mechanical area of Technology Center 3700, currently oversees the examination of applications related to heat exchangers and cryogenics. Len earned a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Chemical Engineering from City College of New York (CCNY). Len joined the USPTO in 2000 and examined applications related to metallurgy, soldering, and welding for the Technology Center 1700. In 2007, Len became a trainer in the Patent Training Academy, where he trained new patent examiners during an 8-month mandatory training program. Prior to joining the USPTO, Len was a Process Engineer at the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) in New York City, where he was responsible for monitoring wastewater treatment throughout the fourteen plant systems of NYC. During free time, Len is a karate instructor, which he has been practicing the art for more than 35 years. He also competes in tennis tournaments and plays on the USPTO’s tennis team.
