Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Navy, for Research Development & Test and Evaluation (DASN RDT&E)

Mr. Eric Shields is the Navy’s Deputy Director for Operational Energy within the office of the Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Navy, for Research Development & Test and Evaluation (DASN RDT&E). Mr. Shields has spent the majority of his career at the Naval Surface Warfare Center, Carderock and has been leading Operational Energy efforts in the Navy for over 12 years. These efforts have covered a broad range of technologies including lithium battery safety and performance, expeditionary renewable energy systems, hybrid and microgrid systems, human energy behavior research, and efforts to improve commonality of DoD power sources.  Mr. Shields holds a bachelor’s and master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Maryland, College Park.
