Marc Brittain is a member of the Senior Professional Staff at John Hopkins University Applied Physics Lab in the Asymmetric Operations Sector. Broadly, his research interests include decision making under uncertainty, safe artificial intelligence, and reinforcement learning with applications to air transportation systems. His early works applying AI to air traffic control have garnered international recognition and have inspired further research among a growing global community. Prior to joining APL, Dr. Brittain was a member of the Technical Staff at MIT Lincoln Laboratory. There, he led development of an AI testbed for advanced air mobility (AAM-Gym) focusing on various research areas such as AI for decentralized separation assurance in high density AAM corridors and in-flight contingency planning. Marc is an AIAA Senior Member and serves as the Vice-Chair for the AIAA Air Transportation Technical Committee. He holds a PhD in aerospace engineering from Iowa State University.
