As China Policy Advisor, I advise the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Indo-Pacific Security Affairs, Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense (DASD) for China, under the Direction of the Director, Defense Relations and in support of other Directorates as assigned, in providing international security strategy, policy, and guidance related to the People's Republic of China (PRC). Working with the NSC, Dept of Treasury, Dept of Justice, FBI, CIA and others, I provide advice and policy recommendations that promote and protect defense innovation and technology and counter the PRC’s global ambitions in strategic economic and technology competition; shape and influence ally and partner China-related innovation,cyber, economic and technology policies; seek and expand cooperation with allies and partners, industry, and the interagency to maintain strategic advantage and influence PRC behavior. I lead the DoD’s Artificial Intelligence portfolio (alongside interagency and likeminded partners) as well as review of China trade and investment. Leading counter technological capability development, I leverage a global, multi-disciplinary network of Civilian and Military experts to advance the Secretary of Defense’s objectives implementation of OUSDP-wide goals and objectives as portfolio lead for Artificial intelligence, China Trade, and Legislative affairs. In support of OSD Policy, I answer quarterly HASC/SASC Professional Staff Members. This includes:
Providing advice to the most senior levels of government including the National Security Council, Treasury, and DoD.
Responsible for establishing and implementing the Administration, NSC and OSD (P) goals, priorities, policies, programs, and procedures related to effective and efficient management of a campaign to introduce friction into PLA development.
