First Lieutenant Kevin Murray is the Founder and Lead of the 2nd Space Launch Squadron Innovation Team at Vandenberg Space Force Base, California. He began as the Delta IV/Atlas V Avionics Responsible Engineer, then served as Deputy for the first satellite mission assurance effort in over a decade, ensuring payload integration and on schedule delivery of the WSF M mission in early 2024. Following his success in mission assurance, Lt Murray deepened his technical expertise through Supra Coders, completing a three month software development course that sharpened his full stack skills and agile practices. He applied this experience as a Software Engineer Intern, building an LLM powered on-console application with a cross functional team. In October 2024, he launched the 2nd SLS Innovation Team, reduced reliance on large contracts, secured R&D funding, and migrated legacy tools into AWS GovCloud. Under his leadership, the team grew into a multidisciplinary unit that rapidly delivers mission critical solutions and drives digital transformation across the squadron. Looking ahead, Lt Murray will expand rapid prototype capabilities and leverage Small Business Innovation Research funding to accelerate tools that advance launch community priorities.
