Artificial Intelligence for IoT Connected Devices "Smart City & Smart Bases Use Cases"

Smart Cities are gaining popularity and the Internet of Things (IoT) is leading to the generation of massive amount of data. Smart city applications for water management, transportation, safety, power grid and waste management produce huge data sets. Artificial Intelligence algorithms are becoming an integral part of smart city applications. Furthermore, these same applications can be applied to DoD military bases. While smart technologies are slowly being put to use on military bases, there are significant security, operational, and economic benefits yet to be realized.

This workshop provides basic understanding of what AI is, how it works and what it can do for both city and DoD leaders. The topics include the fundamentals of IoT and AI algorithms capabilities for both city and DoD applications. City and DoD leaders will learn how they can plan to integrate IoT and AI technologies to optimize their agile strategic key result areas (KRA) such as; How AI can help them to enhance required policies, processes, vendor relationships and military logistics to ensure long term success and scalability. This introductory overview course includes IoT and AI basics algorithm flow. Key executive managers will learn about AI and the application of AI solutions - benefits and risks for strategic decision making.

The objective of utilizing AI software is to improve a wide range of municipalities operations and task. Research indicates that AI implementation enhance the living condition, making cities more competitive and making them more environmentally sustainable. Big Data sets can be managed through artificial intelligence (AI) processes and render faster and more intelligent systems across the cites municipalities and citizens.

Smart cities technologies are directly applicable to military installations. Under the new given IoT solutions and integrated with AI software, military bases functioning as smart city bases. Military bases face the similar challenges as addressed by municipalities. There are several opportunities arising within bases to utilize the machine intelligence for enhancing the operation with limited resource availability. Smart bases are essentially the integration of networks with IoT components and data analytics to present users with situational intelligence or a common operating picture.

Smart bases are considered as a small city which has employees, office building, schools, police stations, airports and many more. These units getting networked with IoT enabled sensors and formed base ecosystem. Such system performance and Big Data parameters are being controlled by artificial intelligence algorithms. The logistics of military and airbases are also building blocks for smart bases and AI software.

What attendees will learn:
The workshop provides attendees the opportunity to learn IoT and artificial intelligence (AI) fundamentals, building blocks and discover how AI algorithms be designed. Basic understanding of what AI is, how it works and what it can do for City leaders and DoD management. SWOT analysis for AI and IoT applications will be discussed.

Attendees will also learn the ingredients needed to design an AI module for smart cites and smart bases? Topics covered are machine learning, natural language processing, how to program IoT hardware, design firmware and address cloud components as well edge computing. Various IoT and AI platform such as AWS, IBM Bluemix, Microsoft Azure will be taught at the workshop. One of the modules of the workshop discuss the cyber security and security aspects to be considered for designing the smart bases.

At the end, few uses cases for smart bases and smart cities will be demonstrated. Use cases include:

  • Threat monitoring and Situation Awareness
  • Target Recognition
  • Logistics and Transportation
  • Cyber Security

The attendees will have an opportunity to review the demo model designed for global city team challenges approved by NIST (National Institute of Standards and Technology) action cluster frame work. Use cases for Smart cities includes:

  • Smart Waste management
  • Smart Street Lighting
  • Agriculture monitoring systems
  • Smart environmental monitoring systems

Who should attend?
The workshop is designed for city officials, municipal leaders, smart city project managers, IT professionals, researchers, cloud data scientist, BD / Sales and marketing team who are deploying AI and smart city applications. The content and test use cases are designed for executives such CIOs, CSOs, and CRO's or their deputies.
The workshop is also designed for military leadership, pentagon staff, civilian and government procurement officials, industry scouts, DoD officials - who are planning to design and adopt secured IoT systems and AI technologies.
